προσθήκη , ἡ, (προστίθημι)
A.addition, appendage, supplement, “προσθήκας . . μοι ὁ λόγος ἐξ ἀρχῆς ἐδίζητο” Hdt.4.30, cf. Arist.Rh.1354a14; “εὖ γὰρ πρὸς εὖ φανεῖσι π. πέλοι” A.Ag.500; σμικρὰ π. Pl.R.339b, cf. La.182c; ἐν προσθήκης μέρει by way of appendage, D.11.8 (but ἐν προσθήκῃ μερίς shd. be read in Id.2.14); “ἐν ὑπηρέτου καὶ π. μέρει” Id.3.31; “ἐν π. μοίρᾳ” Luc.Zeux.2; προσθήκης μοῖραν ἐπέχειν serve as auxiliaries, D.H.5.67; [“Ἀντώνιος] π. τῆς γυναικὸς ἦν” Plu.Ant. 62.
b. additional payment, PTeb.296.3 (ii A.D.), etc.
2. qualification, ἡ τῆς ἀξίας π. the additional qualification of merit, D. Ep.3.12; “πᾶσίν εἰσι πράγμασι καὶ λόγοις προσθῆκαι δύο, ἡ τοῦ δικαίου καὶ ἀδίκου” Id.23.75: hence, adjective, Gal.11.74, Dosith.p.398 K.
3. accident, circumstance, “τὰ δ᾽ ἄλλα προσθήκας ἅπαντα χρὴ καλεῖν” Alex.271.5.
II. aid, assistance, “προσθήκῃ θεοῦ” S.OT38; ἡ τῶν νόμων π. D.25.24; αἱ λαχάνων π., prov. of what gives no help, Diogenian.2.52.
III. particle, Longin.21.2; of expletives, “π. κεναί” Demetr.Eloc.55.
