A.burnt-offering, sacrifice, mostly in pl., v.l. in Batr.176, cf. Emp.128.6, etc.; “ἐν θυσίησι εἶναι” Hdt.8.99; “θυσίαισι δέκεσθαί τινα” Pi.P.5.86, cf. I.5(4).30; “θυσίῃσι ἱλάσκεσθαι τὸν θεόν” Hdt.1.50, cf. 6.105; θυσίας ἔρδειν, ἐπιτελέειν, ἀνάγειν, Id.1.131, 2.63,60: also in sg., θυσίαν ποιεῖσθαι, θύειν, Pl.Smp.174c, R.362c; “ἄγειν” Id.Alc.2.148e; θ. σωτηρίου, αἰνέσεως, τῆς τελειώσεως, LXXLe.3.1, 7.2, Ex.29.34; of the gods, “θυσίαν δέχεσθαι” A.Th.701 (lyr.).
