A.sand-hundred, Com. word formed from ψάμμος after the analogy of διακόσιοι, τριακόσιοι, etc., to denote a countless multitude, “ψ. θεαταίEup.286 (ψαμμοκ- v. l. ap.Suid.), cf. Ath. 15.671a; also ὀνόματα ψ. grandiloquent terms, Id.6.230d.—So the exaggerated form ψαμμα^κοσιογάργα^ροι , αι, α, Ar.Ach.3 (v.l. ψαμμοκ-): cf. γάργαρα.
