Nautodĭcae
(
ναυτοδίκαι). Commercial judges. At Athens a judicial
board, having cognizance in disputes between traders and suits against foreigners who
pretended to be citiizens. The former class of cases they settled themselves; the latter they
prepared and brought before the Heliastic court. In Demosthenes' time they had ceased to
exist, and both kinds of suits came under the jurisdiction of the Thesmothetae.
