Talassio, Talassius, Thalassius

A primitive Sabine deity invoked in the priestly books (indigitamenta) as the god of marriage. Varro regarded the noun as derived from τάλαρος, a wool-basket, as symbolizing the household work most typical of the Roman matron (Quaest. Rom. 31). See Matrimonium, p. 1016.
