Tamos
(
Ταμώς). A native of Memphis in Egypt. He was
lieutenant-governor of Ionia under Tissaphernes, and afterwards attached himself to the
service of the younger Cyrus. When Cyrus died, he sailed to Egypt with a number of ships and a
great treasure, and sought refuge with King Psammetichus, who treacherously put him to death
in order to get possession of the ships and money (
