Venĕdi

or Venĕdae. A people in European Sarmatia, dwelling on the Baltic, east of the Vistula. The Sinus Venedĭcus (Gulf of Riga), and the Venedĭci Montes, a range of mountains between Poland and East Prussia, were called after this people. The name is preserved in that of the curious people called the Wends, who in East Prussia still preserve many of the Slavonic traits of their ancestors.
