McPherson, Edward 1830-1895

Author; born in Gettysburg, Pa., July 31, 1830; graduated at the University of Pennsylvania in 1848; became a lawyer, but abandoned this profession and took up journalism in Gettysburg; was a Republican Representative in Congress in 1859-63; clerk of the House in 1863-73, 1881-83, and 1889-91. His publications include Political history of the United States during the Great rebellion; The political history of the United States during reconstruction; and a Hand-book of politics. He died in Gettysburg, Pa., Dec. 14, 1895.
