Morgan, James Dady 1810-1896

Military officer; born in Boston, Mass., Aug. 1, 1810; was in mercantile business in Quincy, Ill., when the war against Mexico began, and was captain of a company in the 1st Illinois Volunteers in that war. In 1861 he was commissioned lieutenantcolonel of the 10th Illinois Regiment, and was promoted brigadier-general in July, 1862. He commanded a brigade at Nashville late in that year, and was in command of a division in the 14th Corps in Sherman's Atlanta campaign. In 1885 he was brevetted major-general of volunteers. He died in Quincy, Ill., Sept. 12, 1896.
