The Legislature.
The Senate, yesterday, adopted the joint resolution, heretofore proposed, In reference to the
Hillsboro' and Cincinnati Railroad; sundry bills were passed, among them one to incorporate the Staunton Arms and Ordnance Company.
The Senate receded from its amendment, striking out the fourth section of the bill for the relief of the Banks.
It is now a law.
The
House requested the Senate to return the bill for the relief of the Banks, which being done, a proviso was adopted that the Banks shall not be required to contribute specie on State account beyond the amount necessary to pay the interest on the public debt.
A number of bills were passed.
Resolutions were offered for amending the law in reference to damages against Sheriffs; for allowing two military companies in
Wheeling to form a battalion, and for providing that suggestions may be sued out by, and be returned before, a Justice.
Bills were reported for the organization of an additional volunteer regiment of cavalry, and for amending the militia law. The
House accepted an invitation to visit
Old Point to-day, via York River Railroad, and took a recess till evening, but did no business on assembling.
