Stealing a shawl.

--James Forbes, a white man, was brought before the Recorder on Saturday, charged with appropriating to his own use a four dollar shawl belonging to Thos. N. Priddy. The defendant, in this case, presented the appearance of one who had a decided penchant for whiskey — a juice that admirably lubricates the spinal marrow, and adds materially to mortal mellowness when "taken in season." He had evidently not taken it in the last mentioned way, else he would not have become oblivious on the subject of the right of property in the shawl of Priddy, or been compelled as he was to emigrate to the city jail in company with the Mayor's deputies to await an examination Monday morning.
