Hodge's New cartridges.

--A brief allusion was made yesterday to the newly-invented cartridge of Col. R. M. Hodge, jr., of Columbia, Tennessee, a trial of which was had at the Virginia Armory on Monday evening. The trial sufficed to show it to be a superior article, possessing many advantages over the ordinary cartridge now in use. The rapidity with which a musket (the arm with which the trial was made) could be fired was truly astonishing. When the ramrod was used six shots per minute were easily made, and at double that rate without it. We do not deem it necessary to give details at this time. One obvious advantage of the cartridge is, that the charge of powder it contains is always the same, not a grain being liable to be wasted, whereby the accuracy of the fire is much increased. The attention of manufacturers of ammunition is called to this invention, which is very important at this juncture of our affairs.
