No hope for Ireland.

--In the proceedings of the recent great war meeting in Boston, we find the following:

While Judge Lord was speaking, the following dispatch was received from Mr. Meagher, which was read with thunders of applause:

‘ "To the Chairman of the Union Meeting, Faneull Hall: I deeply regret the impossiblility of being with the citizens of Massachusetts this evening. The Irish Brigade imperatively detains me here. The cause you defend is also an Irish cause. There is no hope for Ireland if you fail to win. There is no hope for liberty anywhere if the United States fail to win."

Thomas Francis Meagher, an exile from his native Ireland because of his efforts to sever her connection with the British Government — aiding in the subjugation of the South ! Thomas Francis Meagher, a native of Catholic Ireland, regretting that he cannot participate in the coercion meeting of Catholichating, convent-burning Massachusetts !--Thomas Francis Meagher, an Irish foreigner, joining hands with New England Know Nothings, to force the Southern people into a distasteful Union ! Oh, such inconsistency must arouse the indignation of every patriot son of Erin in the Confederacy; they well know that Virginia was the first State to crush out the hydra-headed political monster which had its origin in the brains of Yankee fanatics — they well know that beneath a Southern sky no flames ascended to Heaven from the crumbling walls of churches, fired by the hands of Puritan bigots — they well know the wrongs and the sufferings which the South has endured; and they will tell to the world by their deeds of patriotism, by their deeds of daring on every battle-field, that they know these things. Aye, when the South's day of deliverance will come, as come it must, soon or late, they will shout the glad tidings into the cars of their long-suffering countrymen at home. They will tell them that liberty has once more triumphed over despotism and fanaticism; they will tell them to be of good cheer — that there is again hope for Ireland. They will strike anew the chords of

‘ "The harp that once through Tara's hall's
The soul of music shed;

’ which

‘ "Now hangs as mute on Tara's walls
As if that soul were fied."

’ Then indeed, will there be hope for Liberty everywhere — for the foundation principle of true Republicanism — viz: that ‘"Governments must derive their just powers from the consent of the governed"’ --will then be vindicated and firmly established.

Then, let the aiders and abettors of the tyrant at Washington go on in their mistaken and fanatical zeal. They will accomplish nothing but their own destruction.
