Condemned to be shot.

--Some time in February a man named George Edwards alias P. Mahagan, alias James Hickey, of company D, 14th Louisiana regiment was tried before court martial, and sentenced to be shot on the 6th of March, for desertion. He was put in the building corner of Sixth and Cary streets known as Cattle Lightning, to await the execution of the sentence, but prior to the day on which he was to have been executed he and a number of others confined therein contrived to escape. A few days ago Edwards was re-arrested as a deserter and placed in Castle Thunder, where the facts of his condemnation soon became known. The day set apart for his execution having passed, the matter has been referred to the Secretary of War, who will at an early day announce the course that will be taken in the matter.
