Treason

--A resident of this city, named Robinson, formerly of Maryland, was arrested by the Provost Marshal's order last Thursday, charged with using treasonable language. He is to have a hearing before Commissioner Watson. Offences by civilians belong of right to the civil authorities, and not to the military, since martial law is not recognized by the Courts. Where parties are changed with treason it would be better to place the matter in the hands of the civil officers than to confine them in Castle Thunder or other military prisons. Military offences belong to the military, and should be turned over to them.
