Yankee Vandalism.
We have already had occasion to refer to the outrages committed by the
Yankees upon their return to
Charlestown, after one of their regiments had been captured there by
Gen. Imboden's command.
We have since seen a letter, written in the town, and dated October 22d, in which it is stated that the enemy had, on the Sunday night previous, fired the town in fifteen different places, and destroyed a considerable amount of property.
The stores and private dwellings had been plundered, and every species of annoyance that they could perpetrate visited upon the people.
The letter says that the affair of
Gen. Imboden was splendidly managed, but that the inhabitants have since been made to pay the penalty.
There are now several regiments of the enemy in and around that town.
A rumor has been in, circulation for a day or two to the effect that they have again occupied
Winchester in force.
Gen. Sullivan commands the forces at
Harper's Ferry and
Charlestown.
