Deserting to the enemy

--Yesterday afternoon there were brought down on the Fredericksburg train the following persons, members of the 9th Alabama regiment, charged with attempting to desert to the Yankees: William Matthews, W. Stripland, G. W. Taylor, S. P. Gwian, S. G. Powell, and J. Wigny. These persons were captured on an island on the north side of the Rappahannock, a short distance above Fredericksburg.
