‘ A certain gay and dashing young widow of Murfreesboro' represented to Gen. Van Clays that the Federal troops had robbed her of everything except her barren real estate, and that she was compelled to ask the Government for support. The wish was generously complied with, and the officer commanding the post ordered the young widow all the necessaries of life, least as his commissary afforded. In the meantime, and while she was drawing rations from the Government, this fascinating and husbandless live a claim of $200,000 against Uncle Sam for damages done to her real and personal property, and the case put into the hands of a lawyer. The facts coming to the cars of Gen.
