of last night, in this: Secession during his administration is a reflection upon himself and his constitutional advisers. He begs, therefore, that the Southern members of his Cabinet, and the leaders of the Democratic party, will aid him in urging South Carolina to postpone action until he has retired into private life. Let the Convention meet, let the ordinaries of secession be passed, but let it be provided that it shall not take effect till the 4th of March next. It is said that Cobb, Thompson, Floyd, Jefferson Davis, and other Democratic chieftains, have yielded, and that a Mr. Trescot has been sent to make a solemn appeal to Governor Gist.
