General Assembly of Virginia. Senate. Monday, March 24th, 1862.
The Senate was called to order at 11 o'clock A. M. the President in the chair.
Prayer by the Rev. Dr Doggett, of the M. E. Church.
A communication was received from the House of Delegates, announcing the passage of sundry bills; also, insisting on their amendment to Senate bill authorizing field artillery to be made, and small arms purchased for the State.
Mr. Seell moved that the Senate recede from their disagreement to the House amendment, (striking out field artillery, and appropriating the whole amount specified--$100,000 for the manufacture and purchase of small arms alone.) The motion was lost; and,
On motion of Mr. Brannce, a committee of three was appointed to confer with a similar committee on the part of the House in relation to said bill and amendments.
Committee Messrs. Armstrong, Thompson, and Christian of Augusta.
Judge Pitts.
