Attempting to Utter a forged note.
--A slave named Absalom, owned by Mrs. Louisa G. Allan, on Tuesday last presented a forged check for $500 at the counter of the Bank of Virginia.
The forgery was executed so clumsily that it was instantly detected.
The name of the negro was spelled "Apasallom, " and his mistress's name signed "Mrs. Louise G. Allen." He was whipped for his attempted dishonesty, but refused to tell how he got hold of the check.
