Hamilton, Charles Smith 1822-1891 Military officer, a grandson of Alexander Hamilton; born in New York, Nov. 16. 1822; graduated at West Point in 1843; served throughout the war with Mexico; resigned from the army in 1853; appointed colonel of the 3d Wisconsin Regiment May 11, 1861; participated in the siege of Yorktown, and subsequently in the battles of Corinth and Iuka; was transferred to the Army of the Tennessee; and resigned in April, 1863.
