Mr. Morton, of Orange, nominated Mr. Samuel McDowell Moore, of the county of Rockbridge, as a fairer exponent of the principles towards the secessionists; but he would term them the extreme Union men. Mr. Moore preferred that the appointment should be conferred upon Mr. Stuart. Mr. tleman whom he should put in nomination. Mr. Morton withdrew the name of Mr. Moore from the list of candidates.
