Aeo'lides

Αἰολίδης), a patronymic given to the sons of Acolus, as Athamas (Ov. Met. 4.511), Magnes (Paus. 6.21.7), Macareus (Ov. Met. 9.506). Misenus (Verg. A. 6.164), Sisyphus (Ov. Met. 13.26; Hom. Il. 6.154), Cretheus (Hom. Od. 11.237), locastus (Tzetz. ad Lycophr. 732); and to his grandsons, as Cephalus (Ov. Met. 6.621), Odysseus (Verg. A. 6.529), and Phryxus. (V. Fl. 1.286.) Acolis is the patronymic of the female descendants of Aeolus, and is given to his daughters Canace and Alcyone. (Ov. Met. 11.573; Heroid. 11.5.)
