ὁ κατειλεγμένος ‘The person entered on the κατάλογος or military list,’ ‘enlisted.’ Here also the technical term was ἐγγράφειν. The constant changes made in this list by the taxiarchs caused a great deal of trouble and annoyance. Ar. Pac. 1179 δρῶσιν οὐκ ὰνασχετὰ, τοὺς μὲν ἐγγράφοντες ἡμῶν, τοὺς δ᾽ ἄνω τε καὶ κάτω ἐξαλείφοντες δὶς ἢ τρίς.

καθιστῇ λῃτουργεῖν ‘Is making appointments for public service.’]

ἄρχων Esp. in the case of appointments to the χορηγία, § 8.]

βασιλεὺς Esp. in the case of the γυμνασιαρχία. It is the archon basileus who τίθησι... τοὺς τῶν λαμπάδων ἀγῶνας ἅπαντας (Aristot. Const. Ath. 57 § 1.)]

ἀθλοθέται Boeckh, Publ. Ec. p. 216, “For the games there were the athlothetæ, who had the particular care of the great Panathenæa, though probably with the exception of the sacrifices.” [‘Prize - managers,’ ‘Stewards of the Games.’ Aristot. Const. Ath, 60 § 1. S.]

κατὰ ποῖον νόμον ‘By what law could this special description be added to the usual form, or indeed any other than that of the father and the deme?’ This was the invariable description of a citizen, as given below, Μαντίθεος Μαντίου Θορίκιος.— ποῖος, as usual, follows τίς, or καὶ τίς, implying incredulity of some statement.
