ἐξευρόντα is illustrated by the words “αὐτὸν εἰκαθόντα”. He is not to wait until this law has been brought home to his mind by a rebuke. He is to ‘find it out’ in the light of his own reason. “εὑρίσκειν” often expresses the result of reflection. O. T.441“<*>αῦτ̓ ὀνείδιζ̓ οἷς ἔμ̓ εὑρήσεις μέγαν” (i.e., when you look deeper). Her.7. 194“λογιζόμενος ὁ Δαρεῖος εὖρέ οἱ πλέω ἀγαθὰ τῶν ἁμαρτημάτων πεποιημένα”: id. 1. 125 “φροντίζων δὲ εὕρισκέ τε” (v. l. “εὑρίσκεται”) “ταῦτα καιριώτατα εἶναι, καὶ ἐποίεε δὴ ταῦτα”. Cp. Eur. fr. 219 “τρεῖς εἰσιν ἀρεταὶ τὰς χρεών σ᾽ ἀσκεῖν, τέκνον”, | “θεούς τε τιμᾶν τούς τε θρέψαντας γονεῖς” | “νόμους τε κοινοὺς Ἑλλάδος”.
