The Expedition to Steele's Bayon.

Jackson, April 8.
--A special dispatch to the Appeal, from Memphis (!) yesterday, says that the Mississippi river is rising. There are more empty boats from Memphis. The Vicksburg is to be cotton clad so as to land troops. Vicksburg boats have returned from Steele's bayon badly damaged. The navigation of the bayon was found to be more difficult than the Yazoo.

Humphrey Marshall, at Winchester, with heavy infantry, encountered Quinby's forces, who lynominiously fled burning everything on the retreat. [This portion of the dispatch in the original was almost unintelligible. We give the best translation the muddle of words admits of]

More families have been exiled from Memphis in retaliation for raids upon the railroads.
