ANANCAEUM
ANANCAEUM a large drinking vessel (Plaut.
Rud.
2.3. 33), mentioned by Varro in a corrupt passage ap. Non. p. 547, among
articles of
caelatura. Its etymology (
ἀναγκαῖον) has suggested that the drinker was
compelled to empty it at a draught. [
