Ingratitude.

--On Wednesday afternoon last a boatman named Joseph Parrish, while in a state of intoxication, fell into the basin, and would have drowned but for the interposition of a young man named George W. Gillespie, who went to his aid and rescued him. As soon as Parrish found himself on terra firma, he seized a billet of wood and attempted to kill Gillespie for interfering with him, and probably would have succeeded in his fiendish purpose, but for the interposition of bystanders, who aided in his arrest. Parrish has served a term in the penitentiary, where he says he was sent under a mistake. The Mayor committed him in default of bail in $150 to answer an indictment by the next Grand Jury, and also required $150 security for his good behavior.
