Theōri
(
θεωροί). Persons sent by the Greek States on any special
mission (
θεωρία) associated with religion, such as the
offering of sacrifice or the consultation of an oracle. Among some of the Doric States, such
as the Messenians, Mantineans, and Troezenians, there were special officers called Theori, who
consulted the oracles and interpreted their responses.
