Winsor, Justin 1831-

Historian; born in Boston, Mass., Jan. 2, 1831; educated at Cambridge, Paris, and Heidelberg; was superintendent of the Boston Public Library in 1868-77; librarian of Harvard from 1877 till his death, in Cambridge, Mass., Oct. 22, 1897. He contributed to the Knickerbocker magazine and other periodicals; and wrote Reader's Handy-book of the American Revolution; Memorial history of Boston; Narrative and critical history of America; The Mississippi Basin; The struggle in America between England and France, etc.
