alphabetical letter ل ذ The twenty-third letter of the alphabet; called لَامٌ. It is one of the letters termed مَجْهُورَة, or vocal, and also belongs to the class of الحُرُوفُ الذُّلْقُ, or ذَوْلَقِيَّة, i. e. letters pronounced by means of the tip of the tongue and the lip; it is one of the letters of augmentation. -A2- As a numeral it denotes thirty. -A3- For the particles لا لِ لَ, &c., see Supplement.
