"Camp Lomax."
--The
Fredericksburg Herald, in a sketch of the scenes at the camp near that place, says:
‘
Every afternoon numbers of ladies and gentlemen visit the camp to witness the fine soldierly appearance and admirable drilling of the various companies.
The quarters, we learn, have given satisfaction to the strangers, and we are glad of it, and only regret that they are not better provided for but as it is, worse fare might be had.
Everything is done in strict military style.
There are guards and sentinels walking their rounds; soldiers cooking in one place and putting up domestic conveniences in another; some smoking and some sleeping in their tents; some in groups indulging in familiar converse, and some being drilled on the green.
