The late sold weather in Atlanta was the oldest that has been left in that locality since 1834. The exposed thermometers at 10 o'clock P. M., January 1, 1864, indicated 12 degrees above zero; at 7 o'clock A. M., January 2, 1864, 8 degrees above zero. The unexposed, at 10 o'clock P. M., January 1, indicated 18 degrees above zero, and 7 A. M., January 2, 12 degrees. One Saturday in 1834 the mercury fell below zero.
