--A member of the South Carolina cavalry writes home a letter, which we find in the
Charleston Courtier, and of which the following is an extracts
I have heard a great deal of the hospitality of the Virginians, but never experienced it before.
They surpass any people that I ever met with in kindness and generosity.
They will divide the last piece of bread with a soldier.
I believe they are the most patriotic people in the
Confederacy.--Their patriotism is genuine.
I noticed along the road through which a raiding party of the enemy had passed: I have seen persons who were stripped of everything they were worth by the enemy, and yet they hire all their sufferings without complaining, and even without a murmurs.
I am very much pleased with
Virginia, and would much prefer being hare then to be stationed on the coast.
