PANHELLE´NIA

PANHELLE´NIA (πανελλήνια), a festival, or perhaps rather a panegyris of all the Greeks, which seems to have been instituted by the Emperor Hadrian, with the well-meant but impracticable view of reviving a national spirit among the Greeks. (Philostr. Vit. Soph. 2.1, 5; Boeckh, Corp. Inscrip. i. p. 789, ii. p. 580.)
