AURA´SIUS MONS
AURA´SIUS MONS (
τὸ Αὐράσιον ὄρος:
Jebel Auress), a mountain of N. Africa, in the S. of Numidia, below the city of Lambesa.
It forms the SE. extremity of the so-called Middle Atlas, which it connects with the main chain of the Great Atlas. [
ATLAS] It divides the waters which flow into the basin of the lake Tritonis (
Melrir) from those which flow NE. into the basin of the Bagradas. (Procop.
B. V. 2.13, 19,
Aedif. 6.7.)
It appears to be the Audus Mons of Ptolemy (
τὸ Αὖδον ὄρος, 4.3.16).
