CARIATAE

CARIATAE (Καρίαται, Strab. xi. p.517), a small town of Bactriana which was destroyed by Alexander the Great. It is said by Strabo to have been the place where Callisthenes was secured by Alexander's guards. (Arrian, Arr. Anab. 4.14; Cart. 8.5.8; Plut. Alex. 55.)
