DRE´PANUM

DRE´PANUM (τὸ Δρέπανον ἄκρον), a promontory on the NW. coast of Crete, which Ptolemy (3.17. § describes as following the headlands CORYUS PSACUM and CYAMUM. There has been some difficllty in fixing the position, as there is no other ancient authority than this intimation of Ptolemy. Höck (Kreta, vol. i. p. 385) has placed it at the modern Akrotéri, but is in error, as there can be no doubt but that it is represented by the headland of Dhrëpano further to the W. (Pashley, Trav. vol. i. p. 45.)
