ERNODU´RUM

ERNODU´RUM a town in Gallia, which the Antonine Itin. places on a road from Burdigala (Bordeaux) to Augustodunum (Autun). The road passes through Avaricum (Bourges); and 13 Gallic leagues from Bourges, on the Bordeaux side of Bourges, was Ernodurum. The next place to Ernodurum, on the Bordeaux side, is Argentomagus. The place was called Ernotorum in the middle ages. The termination “durum” indicates a river, and the site of Ernodurum is fixed at St Ambroise, at the passage of the river Arnon, a branch of the Cher.
