Mince pies.

--As Christmas and Independence are both at hand, the ladies will be making mince pies and all such good things for their lords. The Farmer & Planter affords the subjoined recipe, which we judge to be good from its comparative simplicity. Try it, at any rate:

1½ lbs. of fresh beef, well boiled and chopped fine; 1½ lb. apples, chopped fine; ¾ lbs. beef suet, chopped fine; 1 lb. sugar; 1 lb. raisins, seeded and chopped; 1 lb. currants; 2 oz. citron, chopped fine; 3 oranges and 3 lemons, chopped fine; brandy or cider, and spice to the taste.
