Toucey, Isaac 1796-1869
Statesman; born in Newtown, Conn., Nov. 5, 1796; received a private education; admitted to the bar in 1818; practised at Hartford, Conn.; member of Congress in 1835-39; governor of Connecticut in 1845.
He served as Attorney-General of the United States in 1848-49; as a United States Senator in 1852-57; and as Secretary of the Navy in 1857-61.
He then resumed the practice of law. He died in Hartford, Conn., July 30, 1869.
