How the aboue mentioned Knight went about to be reuenged of Doctor Faustus. Chap. 31.

DOctor Faustus tooke his leaue of the Emperour and the rest of the Courtiers, at whose departure they were sory, giuing him many rewards and gifts: but being a league and a halfe from the Citie he came into a Wood, where he beheld the Knight that hee had iested with at the Court with other in harnesse, mounted on fayre palfrayes, and running with full charge towards Faustus, but he seeing their intent, ran towards the bushes, and before he came amongst the bushes he returned againe, running as it were to meet them that chased him, wherupon sodainly al the bushes were turned into horsemen, which also ran to incouter with the Knight & his company, & comming to the, they closed the Knight and the rest, & told them that they must pay their ransome before they departed. Whereupon the Knight seeing himselfe in such distresse, besought Faustus to be good to them, which he denied not, but let them lose, yet he so charmed them, that euery one, Knight & other for the space of a whole moneth did weare a payre of Goates homes on their browes, and euery Palfray a payre of Oxe homes on their head: and this was their penance appoynted by Faustus, &c.
