ἐπα^πειλέω ,
A.hold out as a threat to one, “λῆγ᾽ ἔριδος, τὴν πρῶτον ἐπηπείλησ᾽ Ἀχιλῆϊ” Il.1.319; “ἀπειλάων τὰς -ησε” Od.13.127, cf. Hdt.6.32; “δείν᾽ ἐ. ἔπη” S.Aj.312, etc.
2. c. dat. only, threaten, “ἐπαπειλήσας Ἑλένῳ” Il.13.582.
3. c. fut. inf., threaten to do, Hdt.1.189, S.El. 779, Ar.Av.630: but the inf. is freq. omitted, ὥς ποτ᾽ ἐπηπείλησεν as he threatened, Il.14.45, cf. S.Ant.752, Antim.24.
4. “ἐ. εἰ μὴ . .” X. An.6.2.7.
5. Pass., “πρὸς σοῦ τὰ δείν᾽ . . ἐπηπειλημένοι” threatened, S.Ant.408.
