μετάρσιος , Dor. πεδάρσιος , ον, also α, ον Hdt.7.188, E.IT27: (μεταίρω):—Ion., poet., and in late Prose, as D.S.3.51, Ocell.3.1, J. AJ6.9.4, Porph. ap. Eus.PE3.9, for μετέωρος,
A.raised from the ground, high in air, “ἐσπᾶτο γὰρ πέδονδε καὶ μ.S.Tr.786; μετάρσιοι χολαὶ διεσπείροντο melted into air, Id.Ant.1009; λόγοι π. θρῴσκουσι are scattered to the winds, A.Ch.846; ὑπὲρ πυρᾶς μ. ληφθεῖς' E.l.c.; “μετάρσιον πλευρὰν ἔπαιρεId.Hec.499; “μ. ἀναπτόμενοςAr.Av.1382; ναῦς ἄρμεν᾽ ἔχοισα μ. having her sails hoisted, Theoc.13.68; τὰ μ., = μετέωρα, the sky, heavens, Thphr.Ign.3; but defined as τὰ μεταξὺ τοῦ αἰθέρος καὶ τῆς γῆς, opp. τὰ μετέωρα ( = τὰ ἐν οὐρανῷ), Ach.Tat.Intr. 2. on the high seas, ὅσας δὲ τῶν νεῶν μεταρσίας ἔλαβε [ὁ ἄνεμος] Hdt. l.c.; νῆσος μ. a floating is land, Hecat.305 J.
3. in suspense, “ὅσσα Νεῖκος ἔρυκε μετάρσιονEmp.35.9.
II. metaph., high above this world, “διὰ μούσας καὶ μ. ᾖξαE.Alc.963 (lyr.); “μ. ὕμνοςIG3.770: in bad sense, puffed up, elated, μ. τὴν ψυχὴν τηρεῖν Vett. Val.340.13; “ πάρος ἀγλαΐῃσι μ.AP5.272.1 (Agath.).
2. of things, airy, empty, “κόμποιE.Andr.1220 (lyr.).
III. in Medic., of the breath, = μετέωρος 1.2 , “πνεῦμαHp.Mul.2.130; πνοὰς θερμὰς πνέω μετάρσι᾽, οὐ βέβαια (neut. pl. as Adv.) E.HF1093.
