A.-ιῶA.D.Synt.199.14:—speak or write incorrectly, commit a solecism, φωνῇ Σκυθικῇ ς. speak bad Scythian, Hdt.4.117; “ς. τῇ φωνῇD.45.30, cf. Arist.SE173b20, Rh.1407b18; defined as τῇ λέξει βαρβαρίζειν, Id.SE165b20; coupled with βαρβαρίζειν, Phld.Rh.1.154 S., Plu.2.59f.
2. to be guilty of an absurdity, “ς. ἐν δόξαιςEpicur.Nat.14.9, cf. 10; περὶ σολοικιζόντων λόγων, title of treatise by Chrysippus, Stoic.2.6.
II. err against good manners or propriety in any way (in speech, thought, dress, eating, etc.), behave boorishly, Zeno Stoic.1.23; “περί τιPlu.2.45e; “τῇ χειρίPhilostr.VS 1.25.9.
