κενοτάφιον, κενὸς τάφος). A cenotaph—i. e. an empty, or honorary, tomb, erected sometimes as a memorial to a person buried elsewhere; oftener to one whose body could not be found for burial at all. See Verg. Aen. iii. 304; Xen. Anab. vi. 4.9; and the article Funus.
