Cephalĭon
(
Κεφαλίων). A Greek writer, whose native country is
unknown. Cephalion is said to have lived during the reign of Hadrian, and to have been exiled
to Sicily for some offence given to the emperor. He wrote an abridgment of universal history
(
Σύντομος Ἱστορικός) from Ninus to the death of
Alexander. It was in the Ionic dialect, like the work of Herodotus, and, like this also, was
divided into nine books, each named after one of the Muses. He composed also rhetorical
declamations. His works are lost.
