Quartering act.

A clause inserted in the British mutiny act in 1765 authorized the quartering of troops upon the English-American colonies. By a special enactment known as the “quartering act,” the colonies in which they were stationed were required to find quarters, firewood, bedding, drink, soap, and candies.
