Booth, Ballington, 1859-

Reformer; born in Brighouse, England, July 28, 1859; son of Gen. William Booth, the founder of the salvation army (q. v.). In 1885-87 he was the commander of the Salvation Army in Australia, and from 1887 till 1896 in the United States, when he withdrew and founded the volunteers of America (q. v.). In August, 1896, he was ordained a minister in Chicago. He has had in his wife Maud, who is a strong, popular lecturer, an able supporter.
